Thanks so much for everyone who stopped by at see us at our first US appearance at the AbilitiesExpo New York Metro, on May 4-6.
This 3 day whirlwind event was held at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center in Edison. This major event showcased products that are bound to be a sure success as this is the one of the only platforms where we can bring disabled people and their families information about high quality equipment to meet their needs, and to highlight our unsurpassed standard of design which the industry has never seen before. For nearly 40 years, the Abilities Expo has been the go-to source for the Community of people with disabilities, their families, seniors, veterans and healthcare professionals. We were so happy to be a part of this glorious experience once again.
We met so many smiling faces! The Xceed was given a fantastic reception by the wonderful people who came to see us from New York and further, some driving from upstate New York just to see the Xceed. Users tried the chair and got a feel for how it drove. Some users spent hours with us testing the chair and falling in love with how it moves. The amount of suspension this chair has is always a surprise to some people, the bumps are not as jarring as a typical powerchair at all, making for a much smoother ride. The possibilities that users imagines with this chair were endless, with each person we talked to telling a story of which household task or part of their life would be a breeze if they were using the Xceed. We got to meet users who followed us on social media for a long time and were very eager to see the Xceed in person for the very first time. We also got to meet Micah Fowler, star of the TV show Speechless. He signed one of our brochures, which is super cool to have as a memory of our very first cross-border trip with the Xceed. Our line of accessories is expanding rapidly and now encompasses the entire US, as well as regularly fufulling orders from Europe and Australia. The more Abilities Expos we go to, the more fun they get!
30/04/2018-01/05/2018 Metro Toronto Convention Centre
The Accessibility Innovation Showcase (AIS) was a part of OCE’s annual Discovery Conference, which ran from April 30-May 1, 2018 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 222 Bremner Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario M5V 3L9, Canada. The AIS showcased and promoted groundbreaking technologies designed to improve the lives of people with disabilities, bridging many sectors and bringing together industry and entrepreneurs. We were more than thrilled to take part in this event for the second time!
This year, 35 Ontario-based companies were invited to exhibit their innovative assistive devices and technologies on the Discovery show floor, and among them some were invited to compete in a technology pitch. This brought broader awareness of the companies that exist in this niche market, provided exposure to potential private investors, and engaged the entire innovation ecosystem. This exclusive opportunity gave us unprecedented access to experts, industry, government funders, investors, engaging keynote speakers, fascinating panel discussions, networking opportunities, and an opportunity for face-to-face meetings with sector experts. We also got to meet with other inventors also seeking to break down barriers faced by disabled people and had many engaging conversations around the importance of universal accessibility. It was a thrilling event filled with meetings with wonderful individuals and other companies.
We were interviewed by Yahoo Canada’s Finance section, who were very interested by the innovative functionalities of the Xceed and its lateral, posterior, and anterior tilt functions. To view the interview, click here or visit the news section of our website. We can’t wait until the next Accessibility Innovation Showcase so we can continue to share amazing ideas with other local businesses looking to improve the lives of disabled people in Canada!
This year’s Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference was an exciting and interesting variety of topics for all of us who work in the industry of assistive technology. The Conference consisted largely of educational resources, occupational therapists, manufacturers, distributors, and business workshops.
Networking was a huge part of our Conference experience this year and we had so many wonderful conversations with old friends and new ones. We’re so excited to see the increased interest in the community through the thoughtful questions that came our way throughout the entire event. We had many people try the newest prototype of the Xceed, and want to demonstrate its many functions, such as the elevation function, seen above. The elevation also allowed a comfortable mealtime experience on the bar-style tables for our team member, who used the Xceed throughout the event seamlessly. There was a very piqued interest in our product from many dealers, with a large number of questions around when they could have the Xceed on their sales floor. There was also a very high interest from distributors and other attendees around the new line of accessories for mobility scooters and power wheelchairs, which includes the USB power adapter and the rear-view camera system. New distribution channels are in the process of being established for the line of accessories in order to bring these crafty products to the hands of users!
We hope to be able to return to this show in the future and continue conversations with the community around how the Xceed can expand the mobility of disabled users in the GTA and beyond.
